Best Paper Awards - South African Transport Conference
July 2018
The SAICE Transport Division presents an award for the best paper by a young professional at the annual South African Transport Convention (SATC). Over the past three years, a growth has been seen from eight papers to 29 in 2018. The review takes place after the SATC has accepted the paper. Evaluation by members of the Transport Division or specialists in their field of practise are required to review the papers using the same criteria as the SATC, but with specific reference to Innovation, Relevance and Clarity. Two rounds of review takes place whereby the top papers achieving 73% or more are reviewed again by other reviewers that are not the same as those in the first round.
In 2018, the best paper award was presented at the Cocktail Party following day 1 to Chris Plano from the Centre for Transport Studies, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Cape Town, with co-authors R Behrens and M Zuidgeest. The paper is titled: “Towards a Stated Choice Methodology to Determine Minibus-Taxi driver Willingness to Provide Off-Peak feeder Service.”
